The start of a new year means a new opportunity to set some goals and work on your New Year’s resolutions. And what better place to get in shape, enjoy the outdoors more, or learn something fun than in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea (known by locals as LBTS)? Our eclectic, low-key little town has everything you need to kickstart your New Year’s resolutions- and we hope you stick to them!
- Get Up and Get Active
If one of your goals for the new year is to get in shape or exercise more, look no further than our miles of shoreline and beachfront parks. You can walk or jog along our coastline or rent a paddleboard and head out for some paddling right off the beach. Our little town is bike-friendly as well- bring your bike and helmet, or rent some wheels from our locally-owned bike shop, Pedrito’s Bike Shop, or from the B-Cycle rental stand, and head out to get your heart rate up with a ride along A1A. Many cyclists frequently stop in our colorful town for a quick rest or to take in the views. Or if you have little ones, the playground is always a popular spot to run around!
- Spend More Time Relaxing Outdoors
Our town’s motto is “Relax… You’re Here.” We invite you to unplug, unwind, and soak up some salty ocean air. Grab your newest read and relax in one of the colorful Adirondack chairs in El Prado Park and Dunes Plaza or enjoy a soft breeze in Washingtonia Park. LBTS has several beach portals with benches and chairs, where visitors and residents alike kick up their feet and enjoy the outdoors.
- Learn a New Hobby
Looking to dicover new things? Stop in at one of the Town’s two dive shops, Gold Coast Scuba or Deep Blue Divers, to sign-up for scuba diving lessons or for air fills or snorkel gear. You’ll be out exploring our coral reef in no time. Getting ready to test out your photography skills? Follow our walking map and snap some photos of the funky marine art sculptures along Commercial Blvd (psst- don’t forget to check out the artwork in all our plazas in Town).
- Try Out New Cuisines
2021 could be your year to expand your palette and try dishes from around the world at our locally-owned restaurants. LBTS is home to authentic Caribbean, French, Thai, Italian, and Vietnamese eateries, just to name a few. Our town’s restaurants offer indoor and outdoor dining, as well as kid-friendly options, so everyone in your family can enjoy trying something new.
- Plan for a Drivable Beach Getaway
The beach town getaway you’ve been dreaming about may be closer than you think. Skip the flight and drive over to our little town for a long weekend beach retreat. LBTS is just five miles off I-95, and our small, open-air hotels make for the perfect place for a relaxing and socially distanced trip with the family. Unlike other hotels in South Florida, most hotels in LBTS are four stories or less, with outside walkways to access rooms, so lobby and elevator interactions can be limited. Many of our beachside hotels feature outdoor or covered lobbies and waiting areas, making it easy to catch the fresh ocean air while checking in or chatting with the front desk staff.
